NEW - Accounting Fundamentals: The Basics of Accounting in Construction -VILT

Designed specifically for non-accounting personnel, this course specifically focuses on what accountants do, how they do it and why they do what they do. This is not a sit and listen event! Expect an interactive course with hands-on exercises that will walk you through each step of the financial process. You will examine and engaged in practical examples and exercises that demonstrate the sources, uses, preparation and analyses of financial reports.

You will walk away from this course with a basic knowledge and understanding of the financial terminology used in accounting. Accounting is a language unto itself and, thankfully, non-financial personnel, and other employees with financial responsibility can learn to be conversant with the key terminology.

By the end of the course, you will be able to:

  • Understand why accountants do what they do
  • Improve basic accounting knowledge
  • Understand accounting terms and definitions
  • Create basic financial statements and internal reports
  • Analyze accounting processes
  • Understand standards and principles
  • Analyze risk management

Course Format:

Live, Online, Instructor-led training with a class that may include up to 30 students.

Two (2) morning sessions (3.5 hours each):

  • Day 1: Tuesday, April 15: 8:30am-12:00pm
  • Day 2: Wednesday, April 16: 8:30am-12:00pm

Attendance in both sessions is mandatory for course completion.

Course Credits: 

  • 1 CCA Gold Seal credit

This course is delivered in partnership with local construction associations across western Canada and Ontario. You will be participating with industry peers from throughout these regions.

Course Instructor Information

Facilitator: Wayne Newell, Wayne Newell Management & Seminar Services

 

For over 35 years Wayne served in senior financial leadership roles and worked with companies in Canada, the United States and the Caribbean. His experiences and expertise, shared with many companies, has helped owners, managers, employees and businesses grow. In doing so, he has amassed a library of knowledge on what makes a successful contracting company.

 

In the past eighteen years he has presented his exclusive Construction Management Courses to over 3,400 construction professionals from St. John’s to Victoria. He was awarded his Certified Management Accountant (CMA now CPA) designation in 1972.
