CCA Hill Day 2020

On November 3, 2020 SICA representatives met with Members of Parliament Dan Albas and Tracy Gray as part of the Canadian Construction Association's (CCA) Hill Day. Hill Day was conducted virtually this year, parliamentarians from the House of Commons and Senate were connected to Associations to elevate issues of national importance to the construction industry.

Issues discussed included:

  • Stimulus funding for infrastructure projects/COVID 19 Relief
  • Long-term commitment to infrastructure funding
  • Attracting a skilled and diverse workforce to construction

Hill Day 2020 is a week-long exercise taking place from November 2 to 6, in conjunction with National Construction Day celebrations being held on November 3.

CCA Members are meeting virtually with ministers, parliamentary secretaries, official opposition critics and members of the committees on Finance, Infrastructure and Industry to update and press them on key issues facing our industry.

Up for discussion will be CCA’s recommendation for a 25-year plan for stable and secure infrastructure investment as well as the need for greater flexibility in the rollout of existing funds under the Investing in Canada Plan to ensure it is meeting provincial and municipal infrastructure priorities.

CCA also intends to highlight industry efforts to build a resilient and diverse workforce through our Talent Fits Here campaign while discouraging the use of Community Benefit Frameworks, hiring quotas and other legislative frameworks that have proven ineffective and detrimental to the industry and government’s long-term objectives.

The meetings will also give CCA an opportunity to urge the government and opposition to support fiscal stimulus measures for industry, specifically in the form of the COVID-19 Construction Cost Reimbursement Program.
