Unsung Benefits

When you think of benefits, dental and extended health care usually come to mind first. Those are important as well as catastrophic coverage such as accidental death and dismemberment, disability, and critical illness, but there are other benefits as well. The BCCA Employee Benefits’ plans offer other services including:

  • Access to employee and family assistance that provides counselling and other work/life services as well as access to an online portal with resources for our clients and their employees.
  • Access to health and wellness tools through their extended health provider – My Good Health with Pacific Blue Cross and Change4Life with Green Shield Canada. These may include health assessments, health calculators, and guides and are accessible by members on those plans.
  • Great-West Life has a great resource for employees and employers focussing on mental health. The Workplace Strategies for Mental Health website is free for anyone to access.
  • Our partner, Copeman Healthcare is a private health clinic that offers comprehensive health assessments and ongoing care. This is a fee-for-service addition to the plan and can be accessed by both employees and employers.
  • Most employees on our plan have access to Everest Funeral Planning and Concierge Service. This service, free to our clients, provides advice and is a resource during a difficult and stressful time.
  • Employees of our clients can contact us directly with their questions, freeing up valuable time for staff and owners and helping eliminate privacy concerns.

BCCA Employee Benefits was built by the construction industry for the construction industry. We offer group benefits, plans for professionals and executives, Hour Bank plans and stand-alone critical illness insurance.  If you’re looking for an employee benefits plan that includes these services or would like more information, please call us – we’d be happy to chat.

Message Delivered, Message Received

Successful buildings have always been the result of collaboration between the client, designers, and contractors. A strong team, clear expectations, and concise information will typically result in a project which all involved parties will consider successful. Through recent decades the delivery of projects has changed with increased complexity, decreased timeframes, and changing delivery methods. Now more than ever it is critical that the collaboration between the team occurs to ensure the desired outcome.

TAX ALERT – Government Simplifies Measures to Rein in Income Sprinkling

On December 13, the federal government released legislation to simplify restrictions on income sprinkling, proposed to go into effect January 1, 2018. These revisions indicate they’ve listened to feedback during the consultation period, by providing more certainty to taxpayers through the introduction of “bright-line” tests to automatically exclude some family members, and allow income sprinkling for those members who make sufficient contributions to the business.

Employee Benefits are Your Secret Weapon when Life Gets Tough!

As a Client Services Associate with BCCA Employee Benefits, my job revolves around helping companies and their employees with their benefits. Construction and Cyber Risk: An Overview

A hazard such as a fire has protocols and procedures that are designed to mitigate risks – inspections, suppression systems, and risk management practices.
