SICA announces 2020/2021 Industry Awards of Excellence Finalists

Kelowna, BC – The Southern Interior Construction Association (SICA) has announced the finalists for the 2020/2021 Industry Awards of Excellence. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, SICA extended the nomination period for the 2020 awards into the spring of 2021. These awards recognize industrial, commercial, and institutional projects within the southern interior of BC. In addition to the project awards, finalists are also recognized in several Leadership Awards categories.

For the 2020/2021 year, 26 finalists have been selected in the Building Awards and Leadership Awards categories. Building Awards categories recognize a variety of project types; new for this year is the Trade Excellence category which permits Trade Contractors to nominate their work on a project, rather than the project overall. This allows the Trade Excellence Award to recognize the many unique details that make up construction projects as a whole.

All of the finalists will be recognized at the Awards dinner, where the winners will be selected. SICA had planned on hosting this event in the fall of 2021, but with the ever-changing dynamics of COVID-19, the event is tentatively scheduled for January 2022. Tickets for this premiere event will be on sale in the fall of 2021.

“It is truly an honor for us here at SICA to recognize those industry players who are leaders in exemplifying quality in the work they do in the construction industry,” says SICA CEO Scott Wild.  “It is part of SICA’s mission to promote excellence in the construction community and it is fantastic to be coordinating awards to facilitate that acknowledgment.”

In addition to the Building and Leadership Award categories, SICA will be honouring members celebrating milestones with the organization; members’ milestones are recognized for every 5 years of membership with SICA. “SICA is also very pleased to present milestone awards to our long-term members whose dedicated commitment has both helped to build our association and the communities we live in,” says Wild.

There will also be a presentation made for the Owner Consultant Award, this award recognizes the construction owners and or consultants that have played an active role in supporting the industry. Finally, the Howard Strong Industry Builder Award, which is the namesake award of the first President of SICA, will be presented. This award is given to an individual who, through their actions over an extended period of time, has contributed in a manner beyond the expectation of daily business.

SICA training courses prove practical and meaningful to students

It’s no exaggeration to say the global economy has been paralyzed by the pandemic. Fortunately for many Canadians, the construction industry was one of the few beacons in an otherwise slow economy greatly inhibited by COVID-19. Of course, the many forms of construction activity couldn’t forge ahead frivolously – social distancing, rigorous cleaning protocols and an abundance of caution were the norm on work sites everywhere, and it’s clear these methods will continue in the months ahead.
