Carpentry Instructor

The Southern Interior Construction Association (SICA) is seeking a qualified Instructor to deliver a 3-week hands-on workshop - Build-IT – Introduction to Carpentry in Westbank, BC, starting August 15, 2022.  The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong desire to teach entry-level students, our future workers, in all elements of the program, program development and tool and equipment maintenance.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute instructional in-class and hands-on activities
  • Present lessons in a comprehensive and interactive manner using visual/audio means to facilitate learning
  • Provide a quality, motivated, positive and supportive learning environment
  • Assess and record students’ progress and provide grades and constructive feedback
  • Teach employability skills, assist with time management, spend the extra effort with students who are struggling, and challenge the students who are excelling
  • Collaborate with the Education Team, and stakeholders and participate in scheduled meetings

Education and Experience

  • Certified Apprentice or a minimum 5 years of current work experience as a journeyperson in both residential and commercial
  • WHMIS GHS
  • OFA Level 1 (Minimum)
  • Previous teaching experience is an asset

This is a contract position with further contract opportunities.  The salary range is $45.00 - $60.00/hr based on qualifications and experience.  Any travel, meals and accommodation as required will also be compensated.  The employer also agrees to pay a tool allowance should the chosen applicant supply his own tools.Please send your resume to training@sicabc.ca. or fill out form here.  Deadline July 15, 2022
